PROMOGED will allocate 30 billion CFA francs to the region of Saint-Louis, for the establishment of about fifty waste management infrastructures

The region of Saint Louis will benefit from a financing of more than 30 billion CFA francs, given its tourism and economic potential. "The region is important in the socio-economic field of Senegal. Reason for which, the State of Senegal wanted to integrate it among the first 7 target regions of Promoged. For a total funding of 206 billion CFA francs, 30 are reserved for Saint-Louis. This reflects the willingness of the authorities to promote a Senegal with zero waste. Especially since the region has a huge tourist potential and it is necessary to improve its living environment and raise its level of sanitation, "said Ibrahima Diagne.

For the director of Promoged, the position of the region makes it a privileged in the development of the project. "Saint-Louis will host at least fifty infrastructures including 02 integrated value centers, a sorting center, a transfer center, and standardized grouping points," continued Mr. Diagne.
The project affects 30 communes in the region of Saint Louis. For this reason, the chairman of the regional technical committee and the director of Promoged have stressed the need for the dynamics of inter-communality. For them, inter-communality is one of the keys to success of the project. "Faced with the lack of land resources of some local communities, it is necessary to collaborate and work in synergies. Because for this project, there is an innovation in financing. In order to meet the deadline for the delivery of all the infrastructure in June 2026, the financing system is based on results. Therefore, performance agreements will be signed with all actors involved in the project," said Ibrahima Diagne.

The Project for the promotion of integrated management and economy of solid waste in Senegal (Promoged) has proceeded to the official installation of the Regional Technical Committee of Saint Louis (CTR). A ceremony that was chaired by Governor Alioune Badara Samb, in the presence of Ibrahima Diagne, coordinator of Promoged and administrative authorities, local and community.
As part of the second phase of the National Waste Management Program (Pngd), the State of Senegal has initiated the Project for the promotion of integrated management and economy of solid waste in Senegal (Promoted), with the support of financial and technical partners including Afd, the World Bank, Aecid, the European Investment Bank (Bei). To achieve the objectives of the project in the targeted regions, regional technical committees have been set up to govern in a spirit of dialogue between the various stakeholders.

For Governor Alioune Badara Sambe, "the CTR is a very important body in the governance system because it brings together all partners. "The committee will be a framework for sharing, planning, harmonization, evaluation of Promoged's actions in the region of Saint Louis because all stakeholders are represented. It will also be responsible for facilitating and coordinating the activities of the working groups on land, the environmental and social component, the revitalization of the private sector, support for local entrepreneurship and innovation and support for the establishment of inter-communality, "said the governor.
Moreover, in order to strengthen governance in solid waste management in Senegal and improve their services in the regions of Dakar, Kolda, Sedhiou, Matam, Saint-Louis, Thies and Ziguinchor, it is proposed to improve the governance of the sector on the institutional, regulatory and financial.
