About us
- Environmental: Household and similar waste will be managed in an environmentally sound manner. The project will reduce environmental degradation caused by poor waste management.
- Economic: The project will allow the development of sorting and recovery and will thus contribute to the development of the valorization channels in Senegal, which will be essentially centered on material valorization (recycling), and organic valorization (production of compost).
- Wealth and job creation: PROMOGED will help build an important recycling industry and will create thousands of jobs in the regions covered. It will also be a springboard for the development of a community-based approach to waste management through the creation of community companies responsible for pre-collection and sweeping services.
- Social: The project will benefit 138 communes, with a total population of 6,823,025 people or 758,114 households, and will improve their living environment (43% of the population of Senegal) and provide at least 3,000 decent jobs for women and young people. The project will deploy a major communication, awareness and training component.
- Sector governance: The project will strengthen the framework of the waste management sector (decrees, orders). It will contribute to the creation of municipal technical services dedicated to waste management as well as to a better steering of the sector at the local level (development of planning documents, creation of integrated information and management systems and establishment of local technical committees).
